Taisho Pond is one of the most famous landscapes in Kamikōchi. The pond was formed in 1915 after an eruption of Mount Yake blocked the Azusa River and created this calm body of water. Dead trees still stand in the pond, creating a unique scene with reflections of the surrounding mountains like Mount Yake and the Hotaka range. It’s also one of the main entry points when arriving in Kamikōchi by bus.
