Iconic temple of Yoshino, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a key center of shugendō, an ancient mountain-based spiritual practice. Its main hall, the Zao-dō, is one of the largest wooden structures in Japan. The temple enshrines three statues of Zao Gongen, a syncretic deity blending Buddhist and Shintō elements.

Entrance fee: ¥800 (for the main hall).
Touristy? Moderately touristy. A major pilgrimage site, but still relatively unknown among international tourists.
