Kinosaki Onsen is one of Japan’s most famous hot spring towns. For over 1,300 years, people have come here to relax in its seven historic public baths, each with its own unique atmosphere and architecture.

The village is crossed by a canal lined with willow trees and stone bridges, creating a charming, nostalgic setting.

Visitors wear yukata robes and stroll from bath to bath with their little baskets, sampling local specialties like snow crab (in winter) or homemade ice cream.

💴 Admission: Free to explore the village; onsen pass ~¥1,500 for unlimited access to all baths
👥 Touristy? Very popular with Japanese travelers, but still feels peaceful and authentic
📍 Access: Direct JR train from Kyoto or Osaka (~2.5 hours)

💡 Tip: Stay overnight in a ryokan so you can enjoy the baths early in the morning and in the evening, when the streets are quieter and lanterns light up the alleys.

How to Get to Kinosaki Onsen

From Kyoto Train: Take the Limited Express Kinosaki from Kyoto Station directly to Kinosaki Onsen Station (about 2.5 hours). Car: Drive via the Maizuru-Wakasa Expressway and Route 312 (about 2.5 hours). From Osaka
