One of Kyoto’s most iconic Shinto shrines, located at the intersection of the Gion and Higashiyama districts. Known for its bright vermilion gate and central lantern-lit stage, it’s the heart of the famous Gion Matsuri, held every July. The shrine is open 24/7, making it a popular stop both day and night. Locals often come to pray for health and good fortune.

Entrance fee: Free
Touristy?: Quite touristy due to its central location, but still retains a local charm, especially in the early morning or evening.
