Well-preserved historic district, nicknamed “the Little Kyoto of Nara,” with over 500 traditional machiya (townhouses) dating back to the Edo period. Its quiet lanes offer a journey through time, featuring former merchant homes, small museums, cafés, and artisan workshops. Largely untouched by mass tourism.

Entrance fee: Free (some house-museums charge a small fee).
Touristy? Not very. A hidden gem for history, architecture, and tranquility lovers.

📍 How to get there:
🚆 From Nara, take the Kintetsu Line to Yagi-Nishiguchi Station (~30 min, ¥470).
🚶 Imaicho is a 5-minute walk from the station.

Highlights:

🏯 Shonen-ji Temple – The central temple of Imaicho.
🍶 Kawai Sake Brewery – Free tastings inside a historic building.
🏠 Merchant Houses & Shops – Explore old residences turned into museums and galleries.

💰 Free (with small fees for some museums).
