Hida-Furukawa is a small town just north of Takayama, known for its white-walled streets, wooden houses, and narrow canals filled with koi fish. Walking around feels calm and very local, especially compared to nearby Takayama. The town center is compact and easy to explore on foot, with small temples, old merchant houses, and traditional shops. It’s a good stop if you want something slower and less touristy, either as a short visit or a half-day trip.
