The canal area in Hida-Furukawa runs along the Seto River and is lined with white-walled storehouses and traditional houses. The canals are famous for the colorful koi fish swimming through clear water, which gives the area a very calm, local feel. It’s an easy walk from the station and works well as a slow stroll, especially in the morning or late afternoon. Compared to nearby Takayama, it feels much quieter and more lived-in, with daily life still happening around the water.
