Tottori City is a calm, understated city on the Sea of Japan coast. It feels very local and relaxed, far from the big tourist circuits. Beyond the famous sand dunes, the city itself is easy to walk around, with small streets, simple restaurants, and a laid-back atmosphere. I found it pleasant as a stop to slow down, especially if you like places that don’t feel curated for tourists. It’s not about landmarks everywhere, but more about the pace and the setting between sea and mountains.
