Kasuga Taisha is Nara’s most important Shinto shrine, dedicated to the protective deity of the city and historically worshipped by the influential Fujiwara clan. Visitors can admire its distinctive Kasuga-zukuri architecture and the hundreds of bronze and stone lanterns donated by worshippers. The site also includes a peaceful botanical garden showcasing plants mentioned in Japan’s oldest poetry anthology, the Manyōshū. Don’t miss the chance to walk through the sacred forest and explore the hidden sub-shrines along the way!

Entrance fee:
Main grounds: Free access
Inner area (including illuminated lanterns, treasure hall, and main sanctuary): ¥500
