Shaka-dō is one of the main buildings in the Saitō (Western) area of the Enryaku-ji monastic complex on Mount Hiei. This Buddhist hall is dedicated to Shakyamuni, the historical Buddha.

Originally built in the 9th century, the current structure dates back to the Edo period. Compared to the more famous Konpon Chūdō, Shaka-dō is simpler and much less visited, offering a peaceful, contemplative atmosphere surrounded by forest.

💴 Admission: Included in the Enryaku-ji general ticket (~¥1,000)
🕒 Hours: 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM (varies by season)
👥 Touristy? Very quiet, especially on weekdays — perfect for reflection
📍 Access: About 10–15 minutes on foot from the Saitō parking area or along the trail connecting the Tōtō (East) and Yokawa (North) zones
