Located in Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, this monument honors the children who died as a result of the atomic bombing—especially Sadako Sasaki, a young girl who passed away from leukemia caused by radiation.

Sadako became a global symbol of peace after attempting to fold 1,000 paper cranes (senbazuru) in hopes of healing. Around the monument, you’ll see thousands of colorful cranes sent each year by children from all over the world.

💴 Admission: Free
👥 Touristy? Yes, but it’s a quiet, respectful site often visited by schools and families
📍 Access: Inside the Peace Park, about a 10–15 minute walk from Genbaku Dome-mae Station (tram)

💡 Also worth visiting nearby:
– The A-Bomb Dome, just next to the park
– The Peace Memorial Museum, to understand the full history
