Journey to Mount Koya & Okunoin Cemetery 🏯

The spiritual center of Shingon Buddhism, founded by Kōbō Daishi in the 9th century. Nestled in the mountains of Wakayama, this temple village is home to over 100 temples, including Kongobu-ji, Okunoin, and the Garan complex. Visitors can stay overnight in a shukubo (temple lodging), take part in rituals, and meditate in a mystical, timeless atmosphere.

💴 Entrance fee: Free to explore the village / Some temples charge ¥500–1,000
👥 Tourist level: Moderately touristy – visited by travelers seeking spirituality, nature, or a unique cultural experience in Japan.

📍 How to Get There? 🚆 From Osaka:

Take the Nankai Koya Line from Namba Station to Gokurakubashi Station (~1h30, 1,450 JPY one way). Then, take the Koyasan Cable Car from Gokurakubashi Station to Koyasan Station (~5 min, 500 JPY). Upon arrival, take the local bus to Okunoin-mae (~10 min, 300 JPY). 💡 Tip: Purchase the Koyasan World Heritage Ticket (3,400 JPY round trip), which includes train, cable car, and bus rides, plus discounts on temple entries.
