Active volcanic area in Hakone, formed during Mount Hakone’s last major eruption about 3,000 years ago. Famous for its sulfuric steam vents, natural hot springs, and the iconic black eggs (kuro-tamago) boiled in volcanic steam—legend says eating one extends your life by seven years. The site is accessible via the Hakone Ropeway, which offers dramatic views of the crater and, on clear days, Mount Fuji.

Price: Free access. Transportation via Hakone Ropeway ~1,500 ¥ round trip from Sōunzan
Touristy? : Very touristy. One of Hakone’s most iconic and visited spots, especially crowded in peak seasons.

🥚 Try the kuro-tamago, black eggs said to add 7 years to your life!
