Zen Buddhist temple founded in the 9th century by the monk Kūkai (Kōbō Daishi), located in the heart of the hot spring village of Shuzenji Onsen on the Izu Peninsula. The temple gave its name to the area. Surrounded by cypress and bamboo, it is known for its peaceful atmosphere, simple architecture, and serene gardens. It is also historically linked to Minamoto no Yoriie, the second shogun of the Kamakura clan, who is said to have been exiled here.

Price: Free (donation recommended at the entrance)
Touristy? : Moderately touristy. Valued for its spirituality and natural setting, without being overcrowded.
