The Plaza de Armas in Cusco is the main historic square in the city. It has been the heart of Cusco since before the Spanish arrived in 1534. Originally a swamp, it was transformed into the administrative and cultural center of the Inca Empire.

Today, it's surrounded by tourist shops, restaurants, cafes, museums, and two colonial churches. The square is always quite busy and often has parades, events, festivals, concerts, and political rallies.

There will often be buskers and vendors selling art and baked goods. The plaza is a great starting point to exploring the unreal city of Cusco.
