Qorikancha was the most important temple in the Inca Empire, dedicated to the Sun god Inti. It was a place of great religious significance with walls covered in gold sheets and a courtyard filled with golden statues. But after the Spanish conquest, much of the temple was destroyed and repurposed for colonial buildings.

Today, you can still see remnants of the ancient temple at the Church and Convent of Santo Domingo, where the Inca stone walls stand as a testament to their sophisticated masonry skills. There is a small museum inside where you can see historic artefacts and information about the Incas.
