Maya Bay is a stunning white sand beach surrounded by towering limestone cliffs and crystal-clear turquoise water. Made famous by the movie "The Beach," starring Leonardo DiCaprio, this beach is a must-visit when in Koh Phi Phi. It is only accessible by boat and is typically always included on a boat tour around the islands.
It can get VERY crowded with tourists because huge boats all come at the same time. So when booking a tour, make sure to ask about arrival times and if you can beat the crowds. You actually are not allowed to swim in the water due to conservation concerns so lifeguards will blow a whistle at you if you break the rules. You are allowed to go knee deep but no further.
Maya Bay was closed for a long period of time to conserve the beauty and limit over tourism so even though the no swim rule is annoying, its for the greater good!
