Chichibu, Saitama, Japan
Located about 90 minutes from Tokyo, Chichibu offers beautiful mountain scenery, traditional festivals, outdoor adventures, and relaxing hot springs throughout the year.
đ¸ Spring (MarchâMay): Spring is one of the most popular times to visit thanks to cherry blossoms and the vibrant pink moss phlox at Hitsujiyama Park. The annual Shibazakura Festival typically takes place from mid-April through early May.
âď¸ Summer (JuneâAugust): Chichibu's rivers and forests provide a refreshing escape from Tokyo's summer heat. Popular activities include rafting, kayaking, and river cruises along the Arakawa River near Nagatoro.
đ Autumn (SeptemberâNovember): Comfortable temperatures and spectacular foliage make autumn an ideal season to visit. Mountain roads, hiking trails, and river valleys burst into shades of red, orange, and gold.
âď¸ Winter (DecemberâFebruary): Winter brings crisp mountain air, fewer crowds, and one of Japan's most famous festivals: the Chichibu Night Festival, held each December. Illuminated floats, fireworks, and traditional performances create a memorable experience.
Travel Tip: The best times to visit are mid-April to early May for the Shibazakura Festival and late October through November for autumn foliage.
If you're planning to attend the Chichibu Night Festival in early December, book accommodations and train tickets well in advance, as the area becomes exceptionally busy. Weekdays are ideal for a quieter experience, especially during peak flower and foliage seasons.
