Hakone/Gotemba, Japan

Just a short trip from Tokyo, Hakone and Gotemba offer a perfect blend of hot springs, mountain scenery, outdoor activities, and iconic views of Mount Fuji.

🌸 Spring (March–May): Mild temperatures and blooming cherry blossoms make spring one of the best times to visit. Clear skies often provide excellent views of Mount Fuji from Lake Ashi and surrounding viewpoints.

☀️ Summer (June–August): Hakone's higher elevation offers a cooler escape from Tokyo's heat. June and July bring the rainy season, but the hydrangeas along the Hakone Tozan Railway create a beautiful seasonal display. Summer can be a great time to visit if you don't mind occasional rain and cloud cover.

🍁 Autumn (September–November): Crisp temperatures and colorful foliage make autumn an exceptional season for scenic train rides, lake cruises, and onsen stays. Mountain roads and hiking trails showcase vibrant autumn colors.

❄️ Winter (December–February): Winter offers some of the clearest and most dramatic views of Mount Fuji. Cool weather pairs perfectly with relaxing in Hakone's hot springs, and the lower visitor numbers make it an ideal time for a peaceful getaway.

Travel Tip: For the best combination of pleasant weather and clear Mount Fuji views, plan your trip during late October through February. Winter often provides the highest chance of seeing Fuji without cloud cover.

If shopping is on your itinerary, visit Gotemba Premium Outlets on a weekday to avoid crowds. Keep your schedule flexible, as Mount Fuji visibility changes throughout the day—early mornings usually offer the best views.
