Chichibu, Saitama, Japan

Chichibu is an easy day trip from Tokyo and can be explored without a car. Most visitors arrive via Seibu Chichibu Station or Chichibu Station, with many attractions located within walking distance or accessible by local buses.

Approximate travel times from Seibu Chichibu Station:

  • ⛩️ Chichibu Shrine: 10 minutes on foot

  • 🌉 Hitsujiyama Park: 20 minutes on foot

  • 🍶 Chichibu Festival Museum: 5 minutes on foot

  • 🌲 Mitsumine Shrine: 75–90 minutes by bus

  • ❄️ Ashigakubo Icicles: 20 minutes by train

  • 🏞️ Nagatoro: 20–25 minutes by train via the Chichibu Main Line

Things to know:

  • 🚶 The town center is compact and walkable.

  • 🚌 Buses to mountain attractions like Mitsumine Shrine run less frequently—check schedules in advance.

  • 💳 IC cards such as Suica and PASMO are accepted on most trains and buses.

  • 📱 Google Maps works well for planning routes and checking bus times.

My tip: If you're visiting multiple attractions outside the city center, consider the Seibu 1-Day Pass or rent a car for maximum flexibility. Visiting during the Chichibu Night Festival (December 2–3)? Expect heavy crowds and packed trains—arrive early and plan extra travel time.
