Yamanashi & Nagano, Japan

Renting a car can make exploring Yamanashi and Nagano significantly easier, especially when visiting smaller towns, scenic viewpoints, wineries, countryside cafés, and rural onsen areas that may be difficult to access by train alone. While major cities like Kofu and Matsumoto are well connected by rail, having a vehicle allows for more flexibility and spontaneous stops throughout the region. International travelers should remember to carry an International Driving Permit (IDP) along with their passport and a valid driver’s license. Driving in these regions is generally calm and scenic compared to larger cities such as Tokyo or Osaka, making this area a great introduction to driving in Japan.

PS: Make sure to apply for the International Driver's Permit in your home country before coming to Japan. You'll need your Passport and an international driver's Permit to rent a vehicle!

  • There's a Nippon Rent-A-Car outside of Kofu Station.
