Tokyo, Japan

Tokyo has two major airports: Narita International Airport (NRT) and Haneda Airport (HND).

If you have a choice, I generally recommend Haneda because it's much closer to central Tokyo. However, both airports are well-connected and easy to navigate.

✈️ Haneda Airport (HND)

Best for: Short trips, domestic connections, and quick access to the city.

  • Located about 20–30 minutes from central Tokyo.

  • Easy access via the Tokyo Monorail and Keikyu Line.

  • Typically lower transportation costs into the city.

  • Popular for domestic flights and an increasing number of international routes.

✈️ Narita International Airport (NRT)

Best for: Travelers seeking specific international routes or lower airfares.

  • Located about 60–90 minutes from central Tokyo.

  • More international flights and long-haul options.

  • Usually offers more airline choices.

  • Popular transportation options include:

  • Narita Express (N'EX): Direct service to Tokyo Station, Shibuya, Shinjuku, and Yokohama.

  • Keisei Skyliner: Fast service to Ueno and Nippori.

  • Airport Limousine Bus: Convenient for travelers with luggage.

🚆 My Recommendation

  • Staying in Asakusa or Ueno? Consider the Keisei Skyliner from Narita.

  • Staying in Shinjuku, Shibuya, or Tokyo Station? The Narita Express is a great option.

  • Flying into Haneda? The Tokyo Monorail and Keikyu Line provide quick and affordable access to the city.
