Plan Around the Bus Schedule
Rural bus service is limited in parts of Western Tokyo and Yamanashi
Quaddell Reis
West Tokyo Area, Japan
While trains provide access to major stations such as Okutama, Musashi-Itsukashi, and Uenohara, bus service in the surrounding mountains can be limited. Some routes operate only a few times per day, and missing a bus may result in a long wait for the next departure.
Before heading out, check the latest bus schedules and plan your day accordingly, especially if you are visiting hiking trails, waterfalls, hot springs, or smaller villages. If you plan to visit multiple destinations in one day, renting a car may be the most convenient option.
You can use the Suica and Pasmo pass on the Okutama bus routes and the Musashi-Itsukaichi bus that runs to Hinohara Village. Unfortunately, you cannot use Suica or Pasmo on the bus that operates between Uenohara and Kosuge.
