Using the GO Taxi App in Japan
The easiest way to book taxis in Tokyo without language barriers.

Tokyo, Japan
While Tokyo's public transportation system is excellent, there are times when taking a taxi is the most convenient option—especially when traveling early in the morning, late at night, or with luggage.
I recommend downloading the GO Taxi app before your trip. It's Japan's most widely used taxi-hailing app and works similarly to Uber or Lyft.
Why Use Go?
Request a taxi directly from your phone
Enter destinations in English
Avoid language barriers
Track your driver's location in real time
Pay through the app using a credit card
When Taxis Make Sense
Before trains start running (typically before 5:00 a.m.)
After the last train (around midnight)
Traveling with large luggage
Visiting areas with limited public transportation
Splitting the fare with friends or family
Good to Know
Taxis in Japan are safe, clean, and reliable
Taxi doors open and close automatically—don't try to open them yourself
Fares increase late at night
Some areas may have designated taxi pickup zones
Travel Tip: Public transportation is usually the fastest and most affordable way to get around Tokyo, but GO Taxi is a lifesaver after a late dinner, during bad weather, or when you're carrying multiple bags.
