Located in the Highlands of Scotland, Urquhart Castle is a medieval fortification with centuries of history that borders Loch Ness. The present structure dates from the 13th to 16th centuries and it is said to have been utilized in the Wars of Scottish Independence, as rose up against repeated English invasions. Throughout its colorful past, raids were commonplace by the local MacDonalds, with only the powerful Grants family managing to maintain control for any length of time. Even Oliver Cromwell took part here, but was unable to seize it. Today, Urquhart Castle has been placed in state care and is open to the public. A must-see attraction, visiting this castle promises to be an exciting journey through time that will touch on secret battles, ancient stone structures, and passionate Highland families!
