George Square is the principal civic square in the city of Glasgow, Scotland. It is surrounded by architecturally important buildings including the glitzy Municipal Chambers and the Merchants' House. Statues and monuments are scattered throughout it such as those dedicated to Robert Burns, James Watt, Sir Robert Peel and Sir Walter Scott. The square has a history spanning centuries with Medieval common lands being sectioned off to be developed into George Square as we know it today. George Square continues to be an integral part of the city's vibrant culture and people often gather there for events or simply have a relaxing walk within its surrounding beauty.
