It also holds the Scottish National Photography Collection. The building was designed by Robert Rowand Anderson and constructed between 1885 and 1890, with ornate Spanish Gothic style decorating its exterior. Visitors can admire a diverse assortment of paintings and sculptures, dating from the Renaissance to modern day. Famous people that are featured include Mary, Queen of Scots, James VI and I, and prominent figures from the Scottish Enlightenment.
