Money & Payments
Consider exchanging some cash at your local bank before arrival.
In Thailand, SuperRich exchange booths typically offer the best rates.
Thailand charges a ~250 THB (~$7 USD) ATM fee per withdrawal, plus any fees from your home bank.
A debit card that reimburses ATM fees can save you a lot over time.
Cash is still widely used, especially at markets and smaller businesses.
Transportation & Apps to Download
Grab, Bolt, and InDrive – ride-hailing apps (Grab is the most popular)
Grab – also your go-to app for food delivery
Moovit – helpful for public transportation directions (offers a 30-day free trial)
12Go – book ferries, buses, trains, flights, private taxis, and shuttles throughout Thailand
Payments & QR Codes
Download Moretta Pay for Tap-to-Pay and QR payments for business QR codes.
Cash is still recommended.
Temples & Cultural Etiquette
When visiting temples, shoulders and knees must be covered at all times.
Bring a lightweight scarf or cover-up to avoid being turned away.
Bug Spray (Trust Me on This One)
Buy bug spray locally at 7-Eleven—look for Soffell.
Most American bug sprays are not effective against mosquitoes in Thailand.
General Tips
7-Eleven is everywhere and incredibly useful (ATM access, snacks, SIM cards, bug spray, toiletries).
Heat and humidity are intense—hydrate constantly.
Always carry small bills; many places won’t break large notes.
Wi-Fi is widely available, but a local SIM or eSIM is highly recommended.
