Seljalandsfoss is one of Iceland's most iconic waterfalls, located along the famous South Coast. With a stunning drop of about 60 meters, it’s not just beautiful to look at; visitors can actually walk behind the cascading water for a unique perspective. The waterfall is fed by the melting waters from the Eyjafjallajökull glacier, making it a spectacular sight year-round. Surrounded by lush greenery in the summer and often framed by ice in the winter, Seljalandsfoss offers a picturesque backdrop for photos. It’s easily accessible from the Ring Road, so travelers often make it a must-see stop on their journey through Iceland. Plus, the sound of the rushing water adds to the serene atmosphere, making it a perfect spot to take a moment and soak it all in.
Tips: wear protective water gear for this waterfall if you choose to walk behind it- you can get very wet and cold fast. Bathrooms are located here but this is a popular waterfall to see-try to go early in the morning or later in the evening as many tour buses will stop here and it can be a bit overwhelming. Nearby is Gljúfrabúi waterfall. This is a more hidden waterfall in a small canyon- just follow the path to it and it is less crowded but you will get a little wet- just come prepared.
