Ross Castle, located in Killarney, Co. Kerry, is a lakeside fortress steeped in legend and history. Built by the Irish chieftain O’Donoghue Mór in the fifteenth century, the castle is said to be where O’Donoghue still slumbers under the waters of Lough Leane. Legend has it that every seven years, on the first morning of May, he rises on his white horse, bringing good fortune to those who catch a glimpse of him. The castle played a significant role in resisting Cromwell's forces, with a prophecy about its capture by a ship ultimately coming true. Today, visitors can explore the castle's interior on guided tours and soak in the stunning views of the surrounding mountains and lake.
