Hoi An Ancient Town was my favourite place to wander in all of Vietnam. The streets throughout this area are exceptionally quaint, with lanterns and flowers everywhere. The iconic yellow buildings and cobblestone streets make you feel like you're walking through history.
Entry fee: While the area is free to walk around, there is a foreign visitor fee of $120,000 VND ($6.50 AUD) for certain heritage sites within the area.
What to know:
It is exceptionally walkable & only local traffic is allowed in the area so it's far safer to walk around with little kids.
It's pram friendly! This was such a nice change after not being able to use our pram through most of Vietnam.
Top things to see & do:
Night markets for both food vendors & souvenirs
Find all the cute cafes and restaurants
Cycle through the area
Visit the Japanese Covered Bridge
Stroll along the riverfront
Take a Lantern Boat ride
Try Sugarcane Juice
Try Mot
No matter what you decide to do in the area, my top recommendation would be to include at least one visit to the area where you have no plans. That way you can just wander around, take it all in and see what you find!
