Thien Mu Pagoda is one of Hue’s most recognisable landmarks, set on the banks of the Perfume River just outside the city centre. The pagoda complex is centred around the iconic seven-storey tower and includes temple buildings, gardens, and river views.
Getting here:
We visited Thien Mu Pagoda by dragon boat along the Perfume River, which made getting there feel like part of the experience rather than just a stop on the itinerary.
Alternatively, it is easy to reach by a 10 to 15 minute taxi or motorbike from the Citadel.
Good to know:
Once there, we spent a short amount of time wandering around the grounds, taking photos, and exploring at a relaxed pace. You probably won't need longer than 20-30 minutes.
Visiting with kids
The grounds are open and easy to walk around, which makes it manageable with kids, but there isn’t a lot to actively keep them entertained. Planning a shorter visit works best. Keep an eye on younger children near steps and edges, and be mindful that it’s an active religious site, so respectful behaviour is expected.
This stop suits families who want a low-pressure cultural experience without committing to a long tour or structured visit. And honestly, the dragon boat ride up the river was the highlight of the entire experience.
