Dempster Highway Sample Itinerary
Sample itineraries for 10 days, 2 weeks & one week.
Storm and Dalton
Yukon, Canada
10 Day Sample Itinerary
Day 1: Fly into Whitehorse, Yukon
Day 2: Pick up essentials. Whitehorse is a main city, so you can pick up your rental here, stock up on groceries, gas, repair kits, extra tires, etc. Anything you think you need, pick up in Whitehorse
Optional: If time allows, spend a few days in exploring Whitehorse, its a great city! Checkout the "itineraries" or "things to do" section of the guide for how to spend your time here.
Day 3: Drive to Dawson City. Stop at Five Finger Rapids along the way, its a great roadside pullover! This drive takes just over 6 hours without any stops.
Day 4: Spend one day in Dawson City. Again, checkout the "itinerary" section to see how to spend time here.
Day 5: Start the drive to Dempster Highway! Its half an hour to get from Dawson City to the start of the Dempster. There is a gas station on the corner and we found the gas there to be better priced than in the town of Dawson City so fill up your tank here!
Note: if you are camping, I would stay the night in Tombstone Campground (if campground is full, you can sleep at the visitor centre). If you are not camping, you will need to make it to Eagle Plains.
TIP: Once you start the Dempster, Google Maps time estimate cannot be trusted. If the weather is good, add a few hours to the estimated time, if its raining, expect to double the time.
Day 6: Get to either Fort MacPherson or Inuvik
Day 7: Spend the day in Tuktoyaktuk
Day 8: Start heading back, try to make it to Fort MacPherson or Eagle Plains
Day 9: Dawson City or Whitehorse
Day 10: Complete!
