Dawson City is a small, historic gold rush town with wooden sidewalks, a lively old-time saloon scene and easy sightseeing on foot, but remember it is remote and services are limited. You should book lodging, bring cash and fill up on fuel and groceries before long drives, and expect spotty cell and card service outside main businesses. Pack layers, waterproof outerwear and strong bug spray for summer, and heavy cold-weather gear if you visit in winter; you can see midnight sun in summer and the northern lights in winter. Plan activities around short distances: gold panning, the Dawson City Museum, and the cabaret at Diamond Tooth Gerties are the local must-dos, and you can reach town by a long scenic drive from Whitehorse or by small regional flights.
