Dedicated to the fierce goddess Karli, this temple in Saint-Pierre stands out even in a town filled with Tamil shrines. Its walls are painted in saturated blues and reds, with fine sculptural work that reflects both South Indian artistry and Réunion's local craftsmanship. Though smaller than the Narassingua Péroumal temple nearby, it's no less vibrant and often less visited, making it a quieter place for observation.

Inside, the air is thick with incense. Statues of Karli, sometimes depicted in her powerful warrior form, draw offerings of fruit, flowers, and ghee. The temple plays an active role in the spiritual life of the Indo-Réunionnais community and is particularly important during firewalking ceremonies that honor the goddess’s strength and protection.

👉 Time your visit with the annual Karli festival to witness the firewalking ritual. It's intense, spiritual, and deeply rooted in Réunion’s Tamil traditions.
