Belvédère de Bois Court is one of the most dramatic roadside viewpoints on the island — and one most visitors miss. Just a short detour from La Plaine des Cafres, this cliff-edge platform offers a direct view into the deep green basin of Grand Bassin, one of Réunion’s most isolated inhabited areas.

What you’ll see:

  • The village of Grand Bassin, far below, with no road access — only a footpath

  • The Bassin du Bras de la Plaine waterfall, plunging into the valley

  • Rolling green walls, mist-filled mornings, and long shadows at sunrise

There’s a wide, paved viewpoint with railings and space to park, plus a few food trucks and picnic tables if you hit it on a weekend. You don’t need to hike to enjoy the view, but this is also the trailhead for the descent to Grand Bassin village (a tough but beautiful full-day hike).

👉 Local tip: Come early in the morning before clouds move in. If you arrive around 07:00–08:00, chances are good you’ll have clear views and soft light.
