Èze is one of the most spectacular hilltop villages on the French Riviera, perched about 427 metres above the Mediterranean between Nice and Monaco. Known as a classic village perché, Èze clings dramatically to a rocky summit, offering breathtaking views over the coastline.
The medieval village is a maze of narrow stone streets, stairways, and flower-covered archways, all completely car-free, giving it a timeless atmosphere. Artisan boutiques, small galleries, and quiet courtyards are tucked into the old buildings as you climb toward the summit.
At the top of the village are the ruins of a 14th-century castle, surrounded by the famous Jardin Exotique d’Èze. This garden displays a collection of cacti and exotic plants while offering panoramic viewpoints across the Mediterranean that on exceptionally clear days extend toward Corsica.
The village church, Notre-Dame-de-l’Assomption, dates from the 18th century and features a remarkable wooden bust of Christ carved from olive wood that survived the devastating fires that swept through the surrounding hills in 1986.
With its medieval atmosphere and dramatic setting above the sea, Èze is one of the most iconic viewpoints on the entire Côte d’Azur.
