LES VACOAS is one of those rare places where you’re not just eating local food — you’re stepping into someone’s backyard culture. Run by a Creole family in the south of the island, the restaurant is built around wood, trees, and traditional architecture. It’s informal, warm, and full of the smoky scent of wood-fired pots.

The menu sticks close to tradition: massalé cabri, carri bichiques, smoked sausage, rice, and lentils served in enamel bowls with punch or house-made juice. Service is friendly and a little slow, which fits the pace of this part of Réunion. Meals are generous, and if you’re lucky, there might be live music or sega playing in the background.
