Marché Couvert de Cilaos is a small, covered market near the town centre where you’ll find local produce, artisan foods, embroidery, and a few souvenirs made in the cirque. It's calm, weatherproof, and a good stop after a hike or before heading back down the mountain.
What to expect:
Packets of real lentilles de Cilaos (not all are)
Herbal teas, dried fruit, homemade jam, and honey
Embroidered tablecloths and doilies in the Cilaos style
Bottled pickles, spice blends, and small woodwork stalls
Indoor layout, a few vendors are also outside on busy days
It’s not big, but it’s a reliable spot for food souvenirs and one of the easiest places to find genuine local embroidery.
👉 Ask vendors where their lentils were grown. The real ones are small, earthy, and more expensive than imported substitutes.
