In the misty heights of Hell-Bourg, one of France’s "Most Beautiful Villages," the Thermal Baths Ruins are a quiet, evocative site that blends history, nature, and nostalgia.

Built in the 19th century, these thermal baths once attracted well-heeled visitors from across the Indian Ocean — drawn to the mountain air and the supposed healing powers of the hot springs that flowed here. But after repeated cyclones and landslides, the spa was eventually abandoned, and the jungle slowly took over.

Today, what remains is a romantic ruin, moss-covered and open to the air, surrounded by the sounds of birds and flowing water. The short walking path that leads here is easy and peaceful, ideal for a reflective moment or a scenic break during your visit to Salazie.

👉 Pro Tip: Bring a camera — the play of light and shadow among the stones and ferns is a dream for moody photos.
👉 Hidden Gem: Combine your visit with a stroll through Hell-Bourg’s Creole houses, or a longer hike to Trou de Fer if you’re feeling ambitious.
