Piton Papangue
HikePhotospot
Directions

Piton Papangue is a lesser-known viewpoint above Saint-Leu offering a peaceful lookout across the west coast, often with a breeze, bird sightings, and almost no crowds. There's no signage, no shop, and no bus stop, which is part of the charm.

What to expect:

  • Access by narrow road, with limited parking near the top

  • Open grassy area with panoramic views over Saint-Leu and the ocean

  • Short walking paths around the summit, unmarked and a bit wild

  • Spot Réunion’s endemic bird of prey, the papangue, circling overhead

  • Locals come here for picnics or sunset, but it stays mostly quiet

No facilities, no vendors, no guide. Just trees, sky, and space to think. A good place to breathe after a crowded beach or hike.

👉 Bring water and snacks if you plan to linger. Wind picks up in the afternoon, so mornings are calmer for photos or watching birds.
