Bassin La Mer is the quieter, more rugged neighbour to Bassin La Paix — a steep-sided pool with a waterfall drop, set in a narrow volcanic gorge outside Saint-Benoît. It takes a bit more effort to reach, which keeps the crowds down, especially during the week.

Access is from the same general area as Bassin La Paix, but the trail is narrower and less maintained. You’ll walk through cane fields, descend toward the river, and scramble across rocks to reach the basin. The payoff is a deep pool, high rock walls, and the kind of place you can sit and listen to nothing for a while.

You can swim if the water’s calm, but there’s no lifeguard and no rails — it’s fully at your own risk.

👉 Local tip: Combine it with Bassin La Paix if you want two waterfalls in one morning — but do Bassin de la Mer second if the weather’s dry. The trail holds water and can get slick fast.
