Cascade du Bras d’Annette is a series of impressive waterfalls tucked away in the lush landscapes near Grand Étang. Unlike roadside attractions, reaching these falls requires a moderate hike through diverse terrains, making it a rewarding experience for those seeking a blend of adventure and tranquility.

How to get there:

  • Starting Point: Park at the Grand Étang parking area, which also serves as a picnic spot.

  • Trail Overview: Begin on the gravel track leading around Grand Étang. The path takes you through humid forests rich with endemic flora. As you progress, you'll encounter slight elevations and potentially muddy sections, especially after rain.

  • Waterfall Access: Approximately 3.3 km into the hike, after navigating some climbs and descents, you'll reach the base of the Bras d’Annette waterfalls. The sight of water cascading down the verdant cliffs into serene pools is well worth the effort.

What to expect:

  • Scenic Beauty: The trail offers panoramic views of Grand Étang and the surrounding mountainous terrain.

  • Wildlife Encounters: Keep an eye out for native birds like the papangue soaring above, and fish visible in the clear waters.

  • Trail Conditions: The path can be slippery and muddy; sturdy hiking boots are recommended. Some sections may be overgrown, adding to the sense of adventure.

👉 Local tip: Start your hike early in the day to avoid afternoon clouds that often roll in, obscuring views and increasing humidity. Also, check local weather conditions before setting out, as heavy rains can make the trail hazardous.
