Les Trous Blancs

Directions

Les Trous Blancs are a set of collapsed lava tubes hidden in the forest above Bourg-Murat, surrounded by high-altitude tamarin trees and tangled undergrowth. The site gets its name from the pale, chalky-looking pits that pock the earth. They're not huge, but deep enough to make you pause when you come across one suddenly.

It’s not a dramatic walk, but it’s an atmospheric one. The forest feels still, moss-covered, and hushed. You’ll hear more birds than people. The trail isn’t officially marked, though it's clear enough if you follow the beaten path from the parking area. The whole loop is short and flat, making it doable even with kids, just keep them away from the edges.

👉 Combine this with a morning visit to the volcano. It's nearby, uncrowded, and makes a perfect detour on your way down from Pas de Bellecombe.
