Juniper Springs Recreation Area – One of my favorites in Ocala National Forest and truly a unique Florida spring experience. The crystal‑clear spring pool is shaded by palms and oaks, with cool ~72°F water that’s deep enough to snorkel around and explore the underwater features near the spring boil.
A standout feature is the historic CCC‑era millhouse and waterwheel built in the 1930s, a charming reminder of early Forest Service history right by the spring.
From there, you’ll find easy boardwalks and nature trails leading through lush forest, and you can even walk to nearby Fern Hammock Springs — a smaller protected spring that you can view but not swim in.
For more adventure, Juniper Springs is the launch point for the scenic Juniper Run, a ~7‑mile paddle route through old‑growth forest that’s one of Florida’s classic canoe/kayak runs.
Entry fee: Typically around $12–$13 per person per day (kids 5 and under usually free), and there’s also a campground on‑site if you want to stay overnight.
