If you’re driving down to the Keys, one of the coolest detours you can make is to Pigeon Key — a tiny historic island tucked under the Old Seven Mile Bridge.

The classic way to get there now is the Pigeon Key Train Tour from Marathon: you board a short historic train ride that rolls you over part of the old Seven Mile Bridge and drops you right on the island.

A few practical tips for a great visit:

  • Admission (train + tour) is around $25–$30 for adults

  • Go early or mid‑morning so you have plenty of time to explore after the tour — you can easily spend about 2–3 hours total there.

  • If you’re feeling active, you can also walk or bike the restored Old Seven Mile Bridge to the island instead of taking the train — but if you're visiting in hotter months, I definitely recommend taking the train.
