Whitney Beach is such a great option if you love the look and feel of Siesta Key but don’t want to deal with the crowds. It’s a smaller, quieter stretch of beach tucked onto Longboat Key, and the vibe here is very local and laid‑back.
This isn’t a big, built‑up beach with all the bells and whistles, so plan ahead. Parking is limited and facilities are minimal, but that’s part of what makes it feel so peaceful. It’s ideal for shelling, wading, long beach walks, and especially sunset watching.
There usually aren’t lifeguards on duty, so keep an eye on kids and check the water conditions before you go in.
One of my favorite parts of a Whitney Beach day is what comes next — right across the street is Whitney’s, a super cute retro restaurant with great food and drinks. I almost always stop there after the beach.
A few extra visitor tips:
Arrive earlier in the day — the parking spots fill up quickly, especially on weekends and in season.
Bring shade and water — there’s not a lot of natural canopy here.
If you’re into photography, the light during golden hour is gorgeous, and you’ll get those peaceful beach shots without a crowd in them.
Whitney Beach has that old‑school Florida feel and is a locals favorite.
