Norway: Tromsø Guide

This is the guide I wish I had before heading on my first trip to Tromsø. Built from personal experience across two winter visits, it’s packed with all my favourite spots, honest tips, and hidden gems—designed to help you experience Tromsø and beyond like a traveler, not a tourist.

Whether you’re exploring by car or public transport, you’ll find photo-perfect viewpoints, cozy Arctic cafés, day trips to Sommarøy and Kvaløya, and real advice on seeing the northern lights—where to stay, when to go, and how to increase your chances. I’ve also included practical tips from my unforgettable whale watching trip to Skjervøy, what to pack for Arctic weather, and what life up here really feels like in winter. This guide is for curious travelers who want the wild, quiet magic of Northern Norway—snow-covered landscapes, Sami culture, and moments that stay with you long after the trip ends.

French heart, Nordic soul, and a soft spot for dramatic coastlines and cozy villages. I moved to the UK in 2023 to join my British husband after years of long-distance—and many trips exploring the UK together. Before that, I studied abroad in Norwich for a year and fell in love with the UK’s national parks, waterfalls, sunset spots, and charming countryside escapes.

I grew up in France, mostly around the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region and the South, so you’ll find plenty of hikes, secret beaches, mountain lakes, and scenic road trips in my France Map. From Alpine peaks to Provençal villages, these are places I know like the back of my hand.

And then there’s Norway—the country my name comes from, and one I’d dreamed of visiting since I was a kid. I’ve been three times now, chasing northern lights, watching whales in Skjervøy, and wandering the streets of Tromsø under that surreal Arctic light. It still feels like magic.

Here you’ll find maps, personal stories, and tips that go beyond the basics—crafted to help you experience these places the way I did: with wonder, warmth, and a bit of wanderlust.
