This is easily one of our favorite stays in the Lake District. Tucked away just a few minutes’ walk from Cartmel’s iconic village square, this converted telephone exchange manages to be both a historic curiosity and a high-end retreat. It’s the perfect base if you want to be close to the village’s famous sticky toffee pudding shop and Michelin-starred dining, but far enough away to enjoy total peace.

The interior features a stylish loft and a historic spiral staircase that serves as the home's centerpiece. Note: While beautiful, the staircase is quite tight and may not be suitable for those with limited mobility or very young children. Our favorite way to spend an evening here is to grab supplies from Unsworth’s Yard and retreat back to the cottage to watch the sun set over the fells through the floor-to-ceiling windows with the fire lit up for more cosyness. If you’re looking to slow down without being disconnected from the Lakes' best food and culture, this is your spot.

Parking: On-site private parking for 1-2 cars. Pet Policy: One well-behaved dog is welcome. However, you'll need to bring your own dog bedding/towels and keep paws off the furniture and beds.
