Castleton is one of the most scenic villages in the Peak District, with its stone cottages, cosy pubs and castle ruins overlooking the valley, it’s a great base whether you’re here for hiking, caves or photography.
It sits right next to Winnats Pass, one of the most iconic roads in England, and within easy reach of Mam Tor, Edale, Blue John Cavern and Peak Cavern. You can walk straight out of the village onto classic Peak District trails, or simply wander the streets and enjoy the views.
Getting here is easy. Castleton is accessible by car, or by train to Hope or Edale, with regular buses connecting Hope to the village. It’s one of the most convenient places to visit in the Peaks without needing a car.
Parking: The main pay & display option is Castleton Car Park next to the Visitor Centre (HPBC, 1627 Cross St, S33 8WH), right at the edge of the village.
If you’re planning a Peak District trip, Castleton is one of those places that truly has it all — big landscapes, classic walks, caves, and a village that still feels full of character. A must-add stop in any UK itinerary.
